How to Plan a Wedding

Nashville Wedding Florist Answers All of Your Burning Questions

As a wedding florist, I am often asked many questions time and time again, and I am here to answer them! Planning a wedding can be confusing, stressful, and a little challenging. If you don’t know what to expect, it can also become overwhelming. To help guide you through the wedding planning process I wanted to answer a few burning questions I often get about wedding flowers.

Typically, newly engaged couples and couples in the planning process don’t know much about the floral industry and what makes wedding flowers so unique. Often, my clients ask me, what is a good budget for wedding flowers? How do I share my ideas with my florist? And, what flower arrangements do I absolutely need at my wedding?

The answers to these questions will help you through the entire wedding floral design planning process. I’ll give you a great price range of what you should plan to spend, share a few of our favorite ways clients share their ideas and inspiration photos with us, and I will let you know what I, as a Nashville wedding florist, think are the most important flower arrangements to have at your wedding day.

Question #1: What Should My Wedding Floral Budget Be?

To start, your overall budget will vary based on your guest count. The reason for that is a majority of your floral budget will probably be going to table arrangements at your reception. For every table you will have floral to pay for, typically we see table arrangements go from about $100.00-$150.00 give or take.

In my opinion, a healthy floral budget for your wedding is between $2,500.00 and $5,000.00. Now, the amount you actually spend on your florist will vary based on what they charge for design fees and labor. Additionally, the type of flowers you choose is extremely important when it comes to your budget. If you want a popular flower like a Peony, expect your budget to not go nearly as far as it would with a flower like a Mum.

To gauge what your total wedding flower cost will be ask the florists you’re interested in for general quotes and pricing guides. To gain access to our pricing guide send us an inquiry by clicking here.

Question #2: How Can I Share My Ideas With My Florist? I Want To Make Sure They Know My Vision.

As a designer, I often use other images as inspiration. However, I love letting my creative mind get to work and develop new designs. But most couples don’t want to spend hours sketching out original ideas. So, many of my clients often ask how they can share their ideas with me. It’s actually a lot easier than you think!

For starters, Pinterest will be your BEST friend during the wedding planning process. We recommend creating a Pinterest board for your wedding (yeah, maybe update that board you made in high school, haha!) On this board, you can add everything from color ideas to specific ways you want each element of your wedding to look. I absolutely LOVE having these photos as a reference, as it helps me communicate the client's vision perfectly.

If you want to share your ideas with us verbally, that’s fine! However, having specific photos that describe your vision and mood will be sooo helpful. This way, we will see what your eyes see! And don’t be afraid to go overboard. Add ALL the inspo photos, we can go through each image and really define your style with ease. Understanding every little detail that you're envisioning is the best way we can make your dream come true - and that’s the end goal!!

If you’re in need of some inspo go ahead and follow us on Pinterest, we have SO many unique ideas on there, and more content gets added weekly. While you’re at it, feel free to follow us on Instagram to keep up with us in real time.

Question #3: What Flowers Arrangements And Designs Do I HAVE To Have At My Wedding?

Although the decision is ultimately up to you, these are the five most critical floral elements I believe should be at every wedding: A Bridal Bouquet and Boutonniere, Ceremony Arch Floral, Table Centerpieces, Cake Floral, Welcome and Bar Arrangements.

Think of these elements as the pillars of your wedding day design. Everyone will see and photograph these floral elements and, ultimately, what guests remember. Your photographer will definitely focus on these elements, so make sure you select floral pieces that mean the most to you and that you adore!

These floral pieces will each play a pivotal part throughout the day. From a bridal bouquet to the details on the wedding cake, there are personal places you’ll want flowers to be. However, you also want your florals to define your style and the feel of your wedding. By having beautiful welcome and bar arrangements, guests will notice that you went the extra mile to ensure their experience is enjoyable.

This is YOUR wedding, so make sure your floral design reflects you. We don’t all have giant budgets for extravagant floral arrangements, and that’s okay!! There is so much you can do with a small budget. Modern, minimal, and classic styles thrive off minimal floral.

Talk with your florist about your vision, and be open and honest about your budget. They are there to help! And, if you’re in Nashville and looking for a wedding florist, click here. I’d love to set up a time to discuss how Beautiful Things can bring your wedding vision to life!
